This page, like the whole wiki, is evolving. So far we have proposed the following possible groups and we will create pages for each as we assess interest levels. When we think texts and materials are relevant for more than one group we will cross list, but we will develop different information pages and questions for some texts. Feel free to add your own following the Posting guidelines
Threaded Book Club Lists
This is a new feature of the bookclub introduced by the 2007 seminar. A small group of bookclub founders will develop themed lists that encourage readers to read the list in sequence and that include reading questions building on previous books and questions in the list. Readers can certainly dip into the list and read specific books as their interest dictates, but they can also develop a sustained conversation around several books. You might think of them as student-designed mini-courses.
Themed Book Club Categories
This feature of the bookclub was begun by the 2006 seminar and is designed to provide a list of topics to guide readers of books included on the larger list. Rather than reading unrelated books, a book club might want to follow a theme for several meetings, and this list (with specific topic-related questions) is intended to faciliate and suggest selections. Alternatively, a group--such as Drew parents--might want the oportunity to read and suggest readings to those with whom they have something in common. This list is intended to faciltate that kind of interaction as well.
List by audience
We know you want to read what we're reading, but we also thought it would be cool for you to talk to each other about what you're reading. If you like this category please feel free to take it over and make it your own. We will also add some titles that we would like you to read and talk about
Books that mothers and daughters can read and discuss together!
Books you might read to or with children -- post your favorites or those that work well with children you take care of or love
Some of these are books that we read in highschool because they were assigned and want to share with those who are following us. Others are books that we wish had been assigned in highschool.
Everyone enjoys a "chick-flick" once in a while... if you're lonely, this is the place to find books to cry, laugh, or say "awww!" outloud!
. . . and think you should read, too
List by content/theme
If you are interested in reading literature focusing on the challenges individuals faced during the holocaust and other terrible events in the world's history, click here to find out what to read. Created by Erin Newell and Lauren Teres.
This listing is designed to both combat and question censorship. Should some books be banned? Who should be allowed to ban them? Using what criteria? Pages will include information about when and why the included books were banned, and who did it. We will also include discussion questions about the books themselves. What does one gain from reading them? What is at stake? What is most memorable? etc.
Of course! From Jane Eyre to A Tale of Two Cities
We all need them, and we all read them. Now we're going to admit it!
Who doesn't enjoy a good mystery? Challenge your mind and become a detective in a story!
